Classic Matar Qeema Recipe

Matar qeema is a traditional dish. Beef mince is usually used in this recipe. Matar qeema is a dish with alot of spices and sour flavor of lemon. As peas are little bit sweet in flavor so peas cut the whole spices and gives a balance of flavours while you eat matar qeema.

Ingredients

3 onions, thinly sliced
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 cup peas
6-7 cloves of garlic
1 inch piece ginger
1 green chilli
2 tsp crushed coriander seeds
2 green chillies, chopped
1 inch ginger piece, thinly sliced
1/2 kg beef, minced
1/2 cup cooking oil
2 black cardamom
1 large cinnamon stick
1 tbsp cumin seeds
3/4 tsp salt
1 and 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 tsp garam masala
Fresh coriander

Procedure

1. In a pot, add cooking oil. Let it heat up on medium heat. Add black cardamom, cumin seeds and cinnamon stick. Fry for a minute and add thinly sliced onions.

2. Let the onions to turn golden around the edges, when onions are fully cooked. Add minced beef in the pan, mix well. Let it fry for about 10 minutes.

3. Meanwhile grind ginger, garlic, green chilies and crushed coriander seeds. When liquid dries out completely and minced beef completely changed it’s colour.

4. Add that ginger garlic paste and mix well. Cook that on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add salt, red chili powder and turmeric powder. Mix well.

5. Add chopped tomatoes and mix well. Add 1 cup of water, mix well. Cover the lid and let it cook for about 18 minutes on low.

6. Open the lid add peas, mix well and cook peas for 5 minutes. Add lemon juice and garam masala. Mix well and cover the lid.

7. Add green chilies, ginger and fresh coriander and serve with warm roti.
