The Transformers

TransformersTransformers G1 (Generation 1) toy line was launched in 1984. For promoting the toys a comic book was launched by Marvel and an animated TV series was also produced by Sunbow Productions. The animated series was a major hit worldwide and Transformers toys became popular.

Transformers: The TV Series

To promote G1 toyline, a three-episode series was aired. The series was later termed as “More Than Meets the Eye”. The series introduced Megatron, Optimus Prime as good guys along with some nasty dudes as their enemies. The characters in the series come to Earth from planet Cybertron in hunt for new energy sources.

After the enormous success of Transformers TV series a thirteen episode standard season was created to entertain fans. After the enormous success of first season, a 49 episode season was launched in 1985. Several new character and ideas were introduced in the series which revolutionized the cartoon world. From thereafter several sequels were released which are categorized under Generation 1. Most famous of them are The Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce, Victory and Zone etc.

In 1992 second series of Transformers toy line, “Generation 2” or “G2”, was launched. The series introduced a wide array of new characters with more advanced and sophisticated weapons. “Beast Wars Transformers” TV series featured characters from the new toy line. The beast wars series had the following sequels:

  • Beast Wars: Transformers
  • Beast Wars II
  • Beast Wars Neo
  • Beast Machines: Transformers

Transformers

Beast Wars Transformers featured robots with their organic beast modes. This ability helped them in camouflaging with the local environment and life forms. After the success of Beast Wars Series following shows were subsequently released:

  • Robots in Disguise (debuted in 2001)
  • Unicron Trilogy (launched in 2002 in US, 2003 in Japan)
  • Armada (debuted in 2002 in US, 2003 in Japan)
  • Energon (aired in 2004)
  • Cybertron (debuted in Japan in 2005 as Galaxy Force, released in US in 2006)

The new transformer show “Transformer: Animated”, also known as “Transformers: Heroes”, was released in 2008. This sequel shows futuristic Earth inhabited by robots and human beings. Optimus Prime will be a fire truck and will be younger than the rest of Autobots. A new Autobot character “Bulkhead” has be introduced in this sequel. Other characters include Starscream, Rathcet, Prowl, Ultra Magnus, Bumblebee, and Megatron. In 2010 onward, There are several other Transformer series as well. Some of those includes.

  • Transformers: Prim (aired in 2010 – 2013)
  • Transformers: Rescue Bots (aired in 2012 – 2016)
  • Transformers Go! (aired in 2013- 2014)
  • Transformers: Robots in Disguise (aired in 2015 – 2017)

Transformers: The Movie

Transformers live action movie was released in 2007. In the movie two high school students, Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) and Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) get stuck in the fight between Autobots and Decepticons. The robots are in search of Allspark. Sam has his grandfather’s glasses auctioned on Ebay. He was unaware that the coordinates to Allspark are etched on the glasses. The Autobot Bumblebee is sent to earth to protect Sam. Form thereafter a brutal fight begins between the Autobots and Decepticons. To save planet Earth they must not let Decepticons find Allspark. The movies comprises of excellent special effects. The movie soundtrack, “Before it’s Too Late”, is sung by Goo Goo Dolls. The Transfoormers won several awards and recieve positive review. The film was soon followed by four sequels: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Dark of the Moon (2011), and Age of Extinction (2014). A fifth tarnsofrmer movie, named “The Last Knight”, was released on June 21, 2017.

Transformers: The Game

Transformers game is a multi platform video game released in 2007. It is released for Nitendo Nintendo DS, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, PC, and Xbox 360. The PSP version was developed by Savage Entertainment while the versions for rest of the platforms were developed by Traveller’s Tales.

The game’s plot is based on the Transformers movie which was released June 2007. The game allows you choose your side. You can be an Autobot (good guy) or a Decepticon (bad guy). Both sides offer a different story, the game follows the movie plot if you choose to be an Autobot. The game offers stunning graphics and sound effects.
