Some would say it is hard to compare these game systems but in the end if you are going to be any sort of console game player you need to decide what you are looking for most and whom is your audience.
The Xbox360 has been in production for the longest time, followed by the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and then the Wii by Nintendo. They all have a bit of a niche with some crossover in all cases.
Microsoft Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 is the update of the Xbox original. It comes with internal storage and the ability to ready DVD’s as well as CD’s and Xbox 360 games. As the Xbox 360 has been around the longest, and is supplied by Microsoft it has the greatest variety of games of any of the systems. This is to its advantage, because if you want the game system with the most choices, then you really have to get an Xbox 360.
Xbox Live account
The lion’s share of games that are supplied tend to be one or two person adventure games, it is a more solitary pursuit unless you want to go online. If you do, you can use a Xbox Live account to have large multiplayer games such as shooters or fighting games with people from around the globe.
Sony PlayStation 3
This console created by Sony has a greater graphics capacity. It also has a blue-ray player as well as a player for standard DVD’s and CD’s as well as PS3 disks. The number of games available for the Playstation 3 is far less than that of the Xbox 360. Also the games tend to be the same sort of adventure fighting games that the Xbox 360 has there are just less of them. However all the games they do have feature a much more intense screen, picture and sound that exceeds the capabilities of the Xbox 360. Proponents of the PS3 say that it is better to have quality then quantity. Only you know your audience. There are some that say the opposite, those that have teenagers at home that tend to get bored with the same old offering no matter how good it looks.
The Wii is the last console of the three to come on the market. This Nintendo offering has the advantage of being far more family orientated than either of the other game systems. For those with younger children the Wii might be a far better choice as it will be a lot easier to find games that do not feature a lot of violence. They also have a unique control system in their controllers. These controllers have the ability to send the movement they are making. You don’t hit a button to swing a bat or a light saber, you swing the controller and your character mimics your exact movement. There are also many unique add-ons, one that you can stand on that can sense your movement on it, that make the Wii experience very different.
The final verdict: So which should I get?
That can be a hard choice, but it really comes down to whom is going to use it and what sort of games do they like. If you have young children, the Wii is most likely what you will want to get. If you have teenagers that want to kill monsters in a safe environment you want the PS3 or Xbox360. If those same teenagers fine it easy to get bored then Xbox 360 wins hands down.
As time goes on, the offerings will be more and more available to all three systems, so the game choices of tomorrow are sure to be wider than those of today, which should also be considered when you make your final choice.
